Fitness Court creates free exercise opportunities in the Lincoln Park neighborhood
(LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – May 3, 2024) The City of Lincoln Park, MI; Priority Health, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan; and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) are pleased to announce the opening of an outdoor Priority Health Fitness Court® at 1556 Fort St. This launch was made possible thanks to the statewide partnership between Priority Health and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts for Michigan communities.
“Celebrating the opening of the Lincoln Park Priority Health Fitness Court® reminds us that we all have a responsibility to support the well-being of the people in our community and together we can go farther toward improving health for all,” said Dwayne Judson, manager of individual sales at Priority Health. “We are excited to partner with the city of Lincoln Park and the National Fitness Campaign to open this Priority Health Fitness Court as we continue to expand on this initiative across the state.”
With 7,320 active users in 2023, it's estimated that over 41.2 million calories and 13,071 pounds are burned in one year on the Priority Health Fitness Court network.
The new Fitness Court at Lincoln Park is an open-air wellness center that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout. Created with adults of all ages in mind, the Fitness Court is adaptable for all fitness levels. It can also be used in group or solo settings with local volunteer ambassadors leading classes for groups. New and solo users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your-pocket style platform — that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem. The Fitness Court App is available for iOS and Android.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome Lincoln Park to the campaign as a leader in Michigan, championing health and wellness for their residents,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and well-being within the community.”
Lincoln Park is home to the 20th Priority Health Fitness Court. Priority Health and NFC will open at least 30 additional Fitness Courts by the end of 2025. Priority Health’s mission in this partnership is to increase access to free, high-quality exercise for all people – including those with disabilities. NFC developed the trademarked seven-zone outdoor gym in 2012 to inspire municipalities to transform public spaces into community fitness hubs. NFC's award-winning initiative recently welcomed its 500th healthy community, including cities in Michigan such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Madison Heights, Highland Park, Lansing, Big Rapids, Traverse City and Saginaw.
“The Lincoln Park Priority Health Fitness Court exists thanks in part to Priority Health and NFC, but also the Lincoln Park Downtown Development Authority and Wayne County ARPA funds. Without these sponsors, projects like our Fitness Court would not exist, and, so, we are forever grateful,” said Brandon Frye, director of The Lincoln Park Downtown Development Authority. “Since its inception in October of 2023, residents have had access to our Fitness Court and have raved about its convenience and opportunity to improve the health of our city. We look forward to seeing its usage continue to grow for many years to come!”
