(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — Aetna® and National Fitness Campaign are increasing access to fitness and reducing barriers to physical and mental health by collaborating to bring outdoor Fitness Courts® to communities across Virginia. The sponsorship provides world-class fitness, redesigning the built environment to improve overall quality of life through equitable access to outdoor exercise programs in communities and schools throughout the state. National Fitness Campaign is planning its 500th Healthy Community, uniting the country's largest public-private partnership in support of wellness with the goal of building a Fitness Court within a 10-minute bike ride of every American.
The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations. Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users may also download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.

Application Process Now Open
Municipalities, schools and other organizations who own accessible public space may now apply for $350,000 in grant funding to assist in building Fitness Courts across the state, courtesy of Aetna and National Fitness Campaign. Grant recipients will receive a wellness toolkit, education, and design resources to assist in planning, funding and launching their outdoor Fitness Court and community wellness campaign.
