Washoe County, Nevada launches two new Fitness Courts® in Rancho San Rafael & South Valley Regional Parks featuring stunning public art
You know the saying two heads are better than one? Well that’s definitely true when it comes to equitable access to world-class outdoor wellness opportunities. On a bright sunny day in September 2023, Washoe County added a third Fitness Court® to their growing network (City of Sparks launched in the spring) with two stunning Fitness Courts® in Rancho San Rafael and South Valleys regional parks. Each Fitness Court® features unique artwork from Reno’s own Remy Glock that highlight specific elements special to both parks they call home.
The excitement was palpable at both launches with beloved Reno Aces mascot Archie in attendance to celebrate alongside Washoe County Commissioners, Washoe County’s manager and assistant manager as well as Renown Health’s Chief Marketing Officer, Suzanne Hendery.
After the ribbon was cut at both events, Renown Health physical therapists demonstrated all seven stations on both Fitness Courts® to community members and members of the press. The physical therapy team at Renown Health focused on exercises that can be modified at all seven stations for those who are looking for lower impact or recovery-based movements.
“This outdoor Fitness Court® is so complete and thorough. There is a free Fitness Court® App that walks you through workouts and you can choose beginner, intermediate or advanced workouts based on what you choose to focus on. It’s very user-friendly.” - Crystal Finn, Physical Therapist Supervisor for Renown Health
Between the two events, three local news stations captured the excitement in on-camera interviews to showcase these great new Fitness Courts® to the public. The Reno Gazette Journal also provided a feature interview after the official ribbon-cuttings.
Since the launch events, community feedback has been very positive. Washoe County is seeing a lot of activity from trail users and interest from seniors running groups is being explored on how they can best use the Fitness Courts® in their training to build community and maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.
