  1. Describe TERI Campus of Life’s mission and why it’s such a special place

TERI’s mission is to change the way the world sees, helps, and empowers individuals with special needs. Through support, advocacy, dedication, innovation, and resolve, TERI has brought opportunity and hope to countless individuals and families. TERI looks to the future by operating model programs, conducting applied research in best practice procedures, and offering training and consultation to professionals, families, and other community members.

  1. How did you hear about the National Fitness Campaign?

A friend of mine reached out to us about NFC because he knew we were looking to add a fitness opportunity to The TERI Campus of Life. After one meeting, we just knew this was the right way to go.

  1. Who helped to support the project?

The Mayor of San Marcos, Rebecca Jones, San Diego County Supervisor, Jim Desmond and The Kelly Eastman Family and other supporters made this project happen!

  1. How does the Fitness Court fit into the larger TERI mission for those with and without disabilities?

One of our guiding principles is, Fit for Life, and we live and breathe this principal in everything we do. The Fitness Court has allowed us to create another opportunity for those we serve to get out there and have fun while working on their health and wellness. The Fitness Court also give us an opportunity to promote education and inclusion of those with special needs for the community.

  1. What programs do you have planned at the Fitness Court?

Currently, the Fitness Court is open to the public and our staff onsite use the Fitness Court. We are currently constructing The Walter J. and Betty C. Zable Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Buildings on The TERI Campus of Life. These building will be completed in December 2023. Once they are complete, we will be moving our students at The Center for the Arts & Adult Education to the new buildings and operating their fitness classes on the Fitness Court through staff lead classes. We will also be offering staff training classes on the Fitness Court.

  1. What does it mean to be the first official special needs-focused partner to join NFC?

We are used to being the first at many things! This means that we are the just first to create an opportunity for the public to join our amazing folks and work together on health and wellness, but we know there will be more to come!

  1. Any final thoughts on bringing this project to life on the TERI campus?

We loved working with the NFC team on this project. Everyone worked so hard to make this dream a reality! Keep it up everyone!
