Ottawa, Kansas launches a new Fitness Court® along the Prairie Spirit Trail at Kanza Park

In collaboration with the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, the City of Ottawa debuted their brand new outdoor Fitness Court® and wellness programming during the popular Chamber Coffee even on a Friday morning in late July 2023.

Kanza Park, home of the community’s new Fitness Court®, is well known for its beautiful gardens and connected network of trails along the Prairie Spirit Trail. The launch event was well attended by community members, local leaders and elected officials. KOFO local radio host Derek Chappell kicked off the event as the official emcee. Attendees heard remarks on the importance of making health opportunities more accessible from Mayor Eric Crowley as well as Mike Gerrish, Vice President, Chief Marketing Experience Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.

“The City of Ottawa is excited that we have the opportunity to partner with the National Fitness Campaign,” said Crowley, during the opening remarks. “The addition of this Fitness Court® will provide people of all ages an opportunity to improve their health and improve their fitness level.”

Following the remarks and ribbon-cutting photo, emcee Chappel got the crowd excited for active demonstrations featuring first responders from the City of Ottawa Police Department and City of Ottawa Fire Departments.

The City of Ottawa also received grant funding from T-Mobile’s Hometown Grants program. The city was one of 25 Hometown Grant recipients selected. The Hometown Grant program from T-Mobile was established in 2021 with the goal of funding community development projects that make a positive impact for thousands of people in small towns.

“I am excited about this opportunity for our citizens to become even healthier and for those who cannot or do not wish to have a gym membership to be able to become stronger. There is a QR code for a guided quick workout or follow the guidance on the wall; dedicate 7 minutes each time and watch the results!” - Emily Graves, City Commissioner for Ottawa, KS
