In partnership with UCHealth and National Fitness Campaign, Boulder expands their healthy initiative & launches a new Fitness Court® in North Boulder Park.
When Boulder joined the UCHealth campaign in Colorado this year, they kicked off the start of a long-term partnership. Boulder Parks and Recreation, UCHealth and National Fitness Campaign committed to a multi-site build out of the Fitness Court® network with three major priorities in mind: accessibility, visibility and connectivity to city parks, trails and pedestrian infrastructure.
In late October 2023, the Fitness Court® in North Boulder Park officially joined the Boulder network as the first Fitness Court® to be located in a public park setting (first Fitness Court® launched in 2018 on the campus of CU Boulder). On a chilly Friday, Boulder Parks and Recreation (BPR) advisory board members, BPR Director Ali Rhodes, Nick Scozzari of UCHealth and the infamous duck mascot for BPR department were all on site to help cut the ribbon. BPR staff members ran demonstrations for the dozens of community members in attendance to show folks how to use the seven stations on the Fitness Court® at varying levels of difficulty. The excitement ramped up when a BPR staff member went head to head with a local community member in a friendly launch day challenge.
“The Fitness Court® is a fantastic addition to Boulder Parks and Recreation’s system,” said BPR Director Ali Rhodes. “For free, you can now strengthen your body in one of our most beautiful parks. What a win!”
UCHealth’s partnership with National Fitness Campaign is part of Ready. Set. CO, a state-wide challenge aimed at making Colorado the healthiest state in the nation and getting Colorado back to the summit of good health. Boulder joins Highlands Ranch and Loveland as the latest healthy community to join the UCHealth campaign in Colorado.
Since the launch a few months ago, neighbors have expressed interest in activating the Fitness Court® as official ambassadors. BPR has heard positive feedback on daily usage with lots of residents working out, regardless of temperatures, throughout the day. With North Boulder Park being just the start, the future is bright for free, accessible wellness opportunities with the Fitness Court® network in Boulder.
