Keeneyville District 20 made history in the fall of 2023 as the first school district partner to join the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Campaign. More than 75 students, staff, community members, civic and educational leaders joined in the celebration on a Monday evening in October.

Speakers at the event included: Keeneyville’s Director of Strategic Operations Julie Relihan and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois’s Director, Large Group Account Management, Gabe Backstrom. Among the large crowd of excited attendees were Keeneyville school board members, Mayor Rodney Craig of Hanover Park, Hanover Park District Superintendent as well as Hanover Park Police.
After the ribbon was cut, Principal Aliano got the crowd riled up with Spring Wood Middle School students and alumni participating in a fun challenge as well as demonstrations on each of the seven stations of the Fitness Court®.
“Our staff has already incorporated the Fitness Court® activities into their Physical Education classes and the students have really enjoyed the workouts with their peers. Physical, mental, and social wellness is such an important part of providing a healthy learning environment for our students, and the Fitness Court® is a perfect fit for our district. We are grateful for our community partners, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and the National Fitness Campaign for helping to enhance our school community.” - Dr. Omar Castillo, Superintendent at Keeneyville School District 20
Since the historic launch event, Keeneyville teachers and staff have been actively getting parents involved on the Fitness Court® after school. The district plans to work with Hanover Park District on future programming at this exciting new Fitness Court® for the whole community to utilize.
