Alabama artist, Jamal Turner, aka JFRESKO, displays his vector-based illustrations on the City of Huntsville's newest Fitness Court® at Legacy Park
Commissioned through a partnership between the City of Huntsville, National Fitness Campaign, Arts Huntsville, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama came the City of Huntsville’s second Fitness Court® at Legacy Park. The first launched as part of National Fitness Campaign’s featured artist series with the Keith Haring Fitness Court®, located in John Hunt Park.
Jamal FRESKO Turner is an illustrator based out of Huntsville, Alabama. FRESKO's style is vector-based illustrations using layers to build depth. He has been working in this medium for over 10 years and wants to continue to expose people to the medium of digital illustration. He uses his style in this piece to portray the growing community working together to build a long lasting legacy. He is more than excited to represent the community where he was born and raised.
FRESKO’s piece embodies many abstract hands to symbolize the spirit of community, and he uses specific colors to represent themes. Red is for energy, blue for Johnson High School (which closed in 2016) and yellow for the promise of the future. With his family in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in late June, FRESKO spoke about the importance of culture, history and the legacy we all leave behind in hopes of a brighter future.
FRESKO spends his days working on new creative projects at Studio 119 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment in Huntsville.
“My first mural with the city of Huntsville is officially open to view to the public. This has been a long journey but I’ve appreciated every minute of it! My mural “Building a Legacy” is now the landmark sign for the new Legacy Park. The amount of love and appreciation this piece is getting has blown my mind. All the years of hard work are finally paying off and I’m more than excited to see what the future holds! Y’all buckle up! I’m only getting started.”
