It’s no secret that Americans are feeling more stressed than ever before.

For the first time, America is not among the top 20 happiest countries. Gallup’s 2024 World Happiness Report reveals the US fell from 15th to 23rd in rank. Loneliness has become a public health crisis, increasing the risk of premature death more than 60%.

With statistics heading in the wrong direction, there is a promising and effective solution to reverse the trend: a consistent movement practice.

A recent study suggests that exercise is twice as effective at treating depression as antidepressants. Taking just antidepressants improved a person’s symptoms by 26%, the study found, while just walking or jogging improved symptoms by 63%. Researchers found that “the benefits from exercise tended to be proportional to the intensity” and that the more vigorous the exercise, the better.
