Parks and recreation fosters wellness, encourages physical activity and provides a respite from daily routines. With an active Fitness Court, the public space becomes a wellness hub, creating a contagious culture of healthy living for all residents. According to a recent study, cities with the highest ParkScore rankings are healthier places to live. In the top 25 ParkScore cities, people are on average 9 percent less likely to suffer from poor mental health, and 21 percent less likely to be physically inactive than those in lower- ranked cities.

In this blog post, we share 4 creative ways to celebrate all monthlong.

  1. Explore a New Park: Take this month as an opportunity to visit a national park or explore a local recreational area you've never been to before. Immerse yourself in the natural wonders, discover hidden trails, and admire the diverse atmosphere. Every park has its own unique charm waiting to be explored!
  2. Volunteer for a Park Cleanup: Give back to the parks that provide us with so much joy by participating in a park cleanup event. Join local organizations or park ranger programs to help preserve the beauty of these spaces. By picking up litter and maintaining the trails, you'll contribute to creating a better environment for everyone to enjoy.
  3. Attend Park Programs, Events and visit your local Fitness Court: Many parks organize educational programs, guided tours, and fun events during National Parks and Recreation Month. Attend ranger-led talks, workshops, or outdoor concerts. Grab a friend and map your route to walk, jog or cycle to your nearest Fitness Court within your community park. These activities offer a chance to learn more about the park's history, wildlife, and conservation efforts while enjoying a unique and enriching experience.
  4. Practice Leave No Trace Principles: Show respect for nature and help preserve the integrity of our parks by following the Leave No Trace principles. Leave only footprints, pack out your trash, and be mindful of wildlife and their habitats. By being responsible visitors, we ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of these natural spaces.

Let's make this National Parks and Recreation Month a time of exploration, appreciation, and conservation. Celebrate the natural wonders around us and inspire others to join in the efforts to protect and cherish these invaluable resources.
