Every week, NFC celebrates a city that is transforming its community through public fitness. Each city has demonstrated exemplary civic leadership and been awarded a $10,000 grant to build the Fitness Court. This week we honor the residents of Hobbs, NM. Here’s why the National Fitness campaign and Hobbs, NM are a Perfect Fit.
Energizing a Community
Home to bustling oil plants, gas reserves, windmills and solar farms, Hobbs NM is all about energy. But lately, a different kind of energy has been transforming the 34,000-person community. Adopting a county mandate to ensure that residents “live where health is valued and happiness is nurtured,” Hobbs leads the nation with its investments in public fitness.
Making Fitness Excellence a CORE Value
The National Fitness Campaign is excited to partner with Hobbs to build a Fitness Court that will anchor a new $65 million development opening spring of 2018. The Fitness Court joins The Center for Recreational Excellence, CORE, which will include 135,000 square feet of indoor slides, pools, exercise and event spaces located at the hub of a new intercity trail network.
Doug McDaniel: Realizing a Vision
A champion of public fitness, Doug McDaniel oversees the CORE development. Having experienced the Fitness Court firsthand on a trip to San Francisco, Doug became an NFC champion and is now spearheading our collaboration.
