The new Janesville Fitness Court® is the result of an incredible public-private partnership between the City of Janesville, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, and National Fitness Campaign. In this fast-growing community, making the healthy choice the easy choice has never been more important. City Manager Mark Freitag and Recreation Director Shelley Slapak have kicked off a citywide health initiative to get active this summer — and that begins with making small, positive choices each day.

At the Janesville Fitness Court, residents can get a quick workout at any skill level, from functional fitness beginners to competitive athletes. For partners at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, this program can work for everyone that visits downtown. “As a lifelong Janesville resident, I’ve always hoped for something like this,” said Eric Thornton, VP of Operations for SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. “For a free, accessible, fitness court for folks to be able to take advantage of when it fits their schedule.”

In Wisconsin’s Park Place, as the city is known, the bar has been set high for other communities statewide to make fitness free, accessible to all — and fun! With their Fitness Court®, the first to be launched in the state, Janesville adds to their already comprehensive recreation opportunities. Throughout the summer, adults and kids alike can learn ceramics, fish, train for a triathlon, play tennis, or watch movies in the park — and now they can get a free world-class workout!
