In partnership with Priority Health, one of Michigan’s most prominent health insurance networks, OU is thrilled to bring the world’s best outdoor gym to their students and local community members.

“The Priority Health Fitness Court will be easily accessible to bicyclists, runners and people visiting the campus,” said Greg Jordan, Oakland University’s director of Recreation and Well-Being. “We are grateful to Priority Health for helping to bring this initiative to OU and partnering with us to promote student success and community well-being.”

The outdoor gym will sit in front of the school’s Campus Recreation Center, completely free and accessible for all.

On Wednesday, August 7th, University Recreation and Well-Being hosted an official ribbon cutting and launch celebration, where students and community members joined in cheering on some fun head-to-head challenges, group fitness classes, free athletic wear. Stanford University Hosts First Annual Collegiate Fitness Court Challenge

Free Outdoor Gym Attracts Hundreds For Classes And Competition

At California’s elite Stanford University, and for the first time on a college campus in the nation, students now have access to the world’s best outdoor gym — the Stanford Fitness Court. On Wilbur Field, a beautiful outdoor location nestled amongst dorms, dining halls and open turf fields, residents can visit the brand new free facility at their leisure.

This modern outdoor bodyweight circuit training gym allows students to combine cardio and strength training on a state-of-the-art facility designed to transform their workouts. Fun classes and guided competition with friends, hosted by the Stanford Recreation & Wellness Department, allowed them to qualify for the Challenge — an intense competition for the fittest on campus!

On opening day, the fittest athletes on campus came out for a head-to-head challenge that left only two standing!  The high-intensity, seven-minute competition is a timed, scored muscle-melter that tests both strength and endurance. The female and male champions blew past the competition, each shredding nearly 500 reps on the Court’s seven stations, to claim the ultimate Fitness Court Challenge Trophy!

Fitness Court Ambassadors lead free and exciting circuit training classes, allowing everyone — students at a beginner level through elite team athletes — to get their best full-body workout. Mastering the basic seven station circuit is a stepping stone to consistent, progressive and variable routines that support flexibility, balance and muscular strength.
