The Wonderful Company supports a second Fitness Court® in central California, and now the City of Avenal can also boast a home for the world’s best outdoor gym! The Wonderful Company — owner of famous brands like Wonderful Almonds and Fiji Water — is one of Avenal’s largest employers. Through their annual grant program, their beloved staff and local community are now able to access free fitness and wellness opportunities in the beautiful outdoors.

Similar to the facility in neighboring McFarland, the Avenal Fitness Court proudly displays The Wonderful Company’s signature green coloring and heart emblem. However, the city is truly one-of-a-kind when it comes to the location of their brand new outdoor gym: directly outside of a bustling boxing club!

That’s right — King’s Boxing Club is the pride and joy of the Avenal community, known for producing title-holding and olympic-level athletes. The club also supports the Avenal’s Police Activities League, through which officers offer free boxing lessons for local youth athletes. Now, King’s will be home to one of the central valley’s premier outdoor facilities as well: The Avenal Fitness Court!

In partnership with National Fitness Campaign, the city will host an exciting opening day event centered around the new Court and healthy living in Avenal. This official Launch Party on Friday, September 27th will include a 35-minute high intensity group workout class, Fitness Court swag giveaways, and snacks from local vendors… all completely free to the public!

Lace up your sneakers, and grab a gym buddy… the #FitnessCourt has arrived in the sunny San Joaquin Valley!

The City of Oakley will soon cut the ribbon on their beautiful new outdoor Fitness Court®, built in partnership with Bay Cities Paving, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, GoMentum Station, and National Fitness Campaign, making world-class fitness free for all. Connected to the active, vibrant Delta de Anza Regional Trail and nestled alongside the new multi-million dollar Recreation Center complex, this free community gym highlights Oakley’s commitment to creating wellness opportunities for all residents and underscores the outstanding quality of life in this quiet, San Francisco Bay Area suburb.

Residents of Oakley will now enjoy a full healthy living ecosystem — and with this simple free tool, now Contra Costa County residents can stay fit in just seven minutes a day! When cities invest in connected, healthy infrastructure, citizens are encouraged to bike and walk — getting out of their cars, and back into their communities — and this reduces traffic pollution and congestion on highways and roads.

“Our goal at the Contra Costa Transportation Authority is to keep Contra Costa moving, and it has been exciting to see how Oakley has taken that concept and applied it in a way that benefits all members of our community – and will hopefully also benefit the environment and economy of our City,” said Oakley City Council Member and Contra Costa Transportation Authority Commissioner Kevin Romick.

The Oakley Fitness Court is part of a nationwide effort launched by National Fitness Campaign (NFC), and the City is teaming up with local ambassadors to connect their fitness community to free activities and experiences that encourage a healthy lifestyle. With the free Fitness Court App for iOS and Android, users can access free classes and a coach-in-the-pocket for using the Court solo!
