Newport is Next in Kentucky to Make Outdoor Fitness Free for All Residents

Pensacola Fl_002.jpg

The City of Newport is continuing to prove their passion for community, growth, and providing “Quality of Life” for all residents. The ReNewport organization conducted thousands of resident interviews, and used the information they gathered to establish a master plan for the city’s parks and recreation. What is their end goal? To improve their community quality of life by 2025!

On the newly-installed Fitness Court, residents of Newport can take one step closer towards supporting their own health and wellness, in a new and creative way. The Fitness Court® is an outdoor bodyweight circuit training facility designed to transform this thriving public park into a community wellness hub. As part of the national campaign ecosystem, the free Fitness Court App allows residents to track their training progress, learn new routines and compete in exciting fitness challenges.

Following close behind Mount Washington, Newport leaders are thrilled to make their community the next in the state of Kentucky to launch a Fitness Court program and to provide access to free fitness… to everyone! This project came to life, in large part, thanks to the generous sponsorship of St. Elizabeth Healthcare, who quickly jumped on the opportunity to further promote health and wellness by donating $60,000 to the project. Now residents will be able to get a full outdoor workout in beautiful Buena Vista Park!

NFC Welcomes Oakland University to the 2019 Collegiate Campaign, alongside Stanford, Baylor and Florida State!

2019 brought many new additions to National Fitness Campaign’s annual grant program, including $600,000 in funding allocated for Fitness Courts to make a splash in higher education.

NFC’s all new Collegiate Campaign launched in January of 2019. As part of the effort, elite institutions like Baylor, University of Colorado-Boulder and now Oakland University, were each awarded $30,000 to seed a Fitness Court for their campus.

Oakland University (OU) – an elite institution in southeast Michigan – is top-ranked in academics, atmosphere and athletics throughout the state! In partnership with Priority Health, one of Michigan’s most prominent health insurance networks, OU is thrilled to bring the world’s best outdoor gym to their students and local community members.

“The Priority Health Fitness Court will be easily accessible to bicyclists, runners and people visiting the campus,” said Greg Jordan, Oakland University’s director of Recreation and Well-Being. “We are grateful to Priority Health for helping to bring this initiative to OU and partnering with us to promote student success and community well-being.”

The outdoor gym will sit in front of the school’s Campus Recreation Center, completely free and accessible for all.

On Wednesday, August 7th, University Recreation and Well-Being will host an official ribbon cutting and launch celebration. From 4 to 6 PM students and community members are invited to this health and wellness event that will feature head to head challenges, group fitness classes, free athletic wear and light refreshments.
