City of Clinton Launches First Free Outdoor Fitness Court For Residents in Iowa

The Clinton Fitness Court is NOW OPEN!

Here’s How It Happened:

Free fitness is now one of Clinton, Iowa’s expansive Riverfront amenities, making this the first Fitness Court in the state to open and join the 2019 National Fitness Campaign! Residents will now be able to get a full bodyweight workout right along the Mississippi River!

Clinton’s Riverfront is the city’s most well-loved pedestrian hub, and the perfect place for a free outdoor gym for all. The scene includes a paved walking and biking trail, a minor league baseball field — home to the Lumberkings — and a showboat theatre, all nestled along the Mississippi. The Fitness Court is located adjacent to the marina, in the heart of this buzzing community, and open for all ages and fitness abilities.

City leaders were eager to expand this healthy hub for residents, and banded together to fully fund this healthy initiative. The project was spearheaded by the Director of Parks and Recreation, Joshua Eggers, and the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Cathy Marx. Their dedication to the project and to provide the opportunity for residents to work out at no cost is what brought the Campaign to Clinton!

An exciting launch party is scheduled for Thursday, June 13th. Participants can expect free fitness demonstrations and giveaways from local vendors! This celebration will provide residents a chance to enjoy their new outdoor space, and show them how to stay fit with seven simple movements.
