NFC Welcomes Oakland University to the 2019 Collegiate Campaign, alongside Stanford, Baylor and Florida State!
Here’s How It Happened:
2019 brought many new additions to National Fitness Campaign’s annual grant program, including $600,000 in funding allocated for Fitness Courts to make a splash in higher education.
NFC’s all new Collegiate Campaign launched in January of 2019. As part of the effort, elite institutions like Baylor, University of Colorado-Boulder and now Oakland University, were each awarded $30,000 to seed a Fitness Court for their campus.
Oakland University (OU) – an elite institution in southeast Michigan – is top-ranked in academics, atmosphere and athletics throughout the state! In partnership with Priority Health, one of Michigan’s most prominent health insurance networks, OU is thrilled to bring the world’s best outdoor gym to their students and local community members.
“The Priority Health Fitness Court will be easily accessible to bicyclists, runners and people visiting the campus,” said Greg Jordan, Oakland University’s director of Recreation and Well-Being. “We are grateful to Priority Health for helping to bring this initiative to OU and partnering with us to promote student success and community well-being.”
The outdoor gym will sit in front of the school’s Campus Recreation Center, completely free and accessible for all.
On Wednesday, August 7th, University Recreation and Well-Being hosted an official ribbon cutting and launch celebration, where students and community members joined in cheering on some fun head-to-head challenges, group fitness classes, free athletic wear.
