National Fitness Campaign Recognizes Partnerships With 50 Showcase Cities Across America

Limited Funding Still Available to Join 2018 Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO, California, August 9, 2017 – National Fitness Campaign (NFC) announced this week that grant funding has been awarded to 50 NFC Fit Cities, with only 50 grants remaining for 2018.

To provide free fitness for residents and activate public spaces, communities across the country have joined the 2018 National Fitness Campaign and will install the outdoor NFC Fitness Court® next year.

Showcase cities have demonstrated their commitment to making fitness free and fun for all, marking them eligible for one of 100 grants available in 2018, provided by National Fitness Campaign on behalf of their official music sponsor, Fit Radio.

NFC is excited to welcome these first 50 cities to the Campaign, and invites Mayors, Administrators and Park Directors to visit the NFC website to learn more about how their communities could be eligible for remaining grant funds.

In central California, where a group of tenacious high school cross country runners inspired a generation of athletes and scholars, city leadership has committed to promoting free world class fitness with the installation of a new NFC Fitness Court® in 2018.

In Oklahoma and Indiana, decision makers have teamed up with community members to reimagine wellness improvements citywide. An oceanside southern California community will showcase an NFC Fitness Court® at the beach, in close cooperation with the Mayor’s office and local businesses. Next year in New Jersey, a revitalized riverfront park will feature the world’s best outdoor gym – for residents and visitors alike – with stunning views across the water of the New York City skyline.

“We’re ecstatic to be halfway towards our goal of building partnerships in 100 cities next year,” said Mitch Menaged, Founder and Director of NFC. “This fitness program has energized the Marina neighborhood in San Francisco for nearly four years, and our team is ready to make world class fitness free across the country in 2018.”

Grant funding is still available for 50 cities to build a local Fitness Court® and bring the growing 2018 National Fitness Campaign to every state across the country.  City leaders and community supporters can learn more by watching the two minute Campaign video on the NFC website here:
